The ILO Quartet

The (2020-2022) Cleveland based ILO Quartet, meaning “joy” in Finnish, is comprised of violinists Hannah Duncan and Charlotte Loukola, violist August DuBeau, and cellist, Myeonggyun Charles Noh. The Quartet was formed in 2020 at the Cleveland Institute of Music where the ensemble primarily works with Si-Yan Darren Li, Todd Phillips, and Philip Setzer. The ensemble was one of only three quartets selected to participate in the Advanced String Quartet Program at CIM and has performed in masterclasses given by members of the Emerson, Miami, and Orion Quartets. The ILO Quartet were the winners of the 2021 Senior Division (String and Piano) People’s Choice Award of the Coltman Competition, and named 1st prize, Audience Award, and scholarship winners of the 8th Stockholm International Music Competition in the ensemble 3 (ages 18-26) category. Most recently they were one of three finalists in 2021 Petrichor International Music Competition ensemble category and alternate finalists for the 2022 Chesapeake International Chamber Music Competition.Most recently, the quartet worked on a project with Iranian composer, Ata Ghavidel who dedicated his piece, The Mirror Orchard, to the ILO Quartet.

Meet the Members of the ILO Quartet

Violinist Hannah Duncan graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music studying with Joan Kwuon and Jessica Lee at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She attends the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University for her master's studying with Kathleen Winkler.

Violinist Charlotte Loukola graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music studying with Ilya Kaler. She attends the Juilliard School of Music for her master's studying with Masao Kawasaki.

Violist August DuBeau graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music studying with Mark Jacobs. He attends Stony Brook University studying with Lawrence Dutton and Matthew Lipman.

Cellist Myeonggyun Charles Noh is a second year masters student and has studied with Mark Kosower, Stephen Geber, and currently studies with Sharon Robinson at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
